EAA Soccer Family,
Thank you for your patience as we waited for further guidance from federal, state and local health agencies regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on youth sports.
Per our last communication, all team sport activities have been suspended until May 31, 2020, as mandated by Governor Pete Ricketts. All practices, scrimmages, games and events (including tournaments), scheduled prior to May 31, 2020, have been postponed due to the governmental mandate.
On Monday, May 11, Governor Ricketts announced youth baseball and softball teams may resume practices on June 1. Soccer and all other sports have not been given permission to start on June 1, however, and there has been no indication given on when we may be able to resume activity for other sports. Therefore, the EAA soccer program has made the difficult decision to continue our suspension of activities through June 28. This will officially cancel our spring/summer Hive and ADO programming. If we receive permission to start soccer activities prior to June 29, we will begin with allowing Select teams to practice. We may also be able to provide optional training for all Hive and ADO players. Proposed schedule:
There have been questions about refunds or credits for the spring season. As a community-based, non-profit 501(c)(3) youth sports organization, each year we build a budget based on fixed expenses needed to support our sports programs (facilities, insurance, equipment, uniforms, field maintenance, staff, community support, scholarships, etc). Registration and fundraising dollars are used to pay for the fixed expense obligations as we go through the year to generally break even. If all goes well, we end up with a few dollars in reserve for additional programming initiatives. In no scenario does are budget planning account for catastrophic events such as floods and pandemics - we have experienced both within one year. Even with the current events, our fixed costs still remain, and we are exploring options to reduce those expense obligations to ensure EAA survives to provide youth sports programming after the pandemic.
After careful consideration, here are the three options available to our members for spring registration fees:
OPTION 1- Charitable Donation to EAA
Please consider donating your spring registration to EAA. You will be provided a 2020 charitable tax-deductible receipt for the amount of your 2020 spring registration. If you take the standard deduction on your 2020 tax return (the one that you will file in 2021), you can claim a brand new "above-the-line" deduction of up to $300 for cash donations to charity you make this year. Before making any decision or taking any action, you should consult a professional adviser who has been provided with all pertinent facts relevant to your particular situation.
